Nuffield 10/60 spool valve settings

Post by Scud106 » Tue Jan 07, 2020 1:29 pm

Hi All
Thanks for joining me up to the group.
Does any one have any info on setting up the relief pressures etc on the 10/60 spool valve also the original lengths of the springs on the high/low pressure relief etc. Any info or pics would be handy as I’ve no workshop manual for the 10/60.

Connect a suitable pressure gauge to the tipping trailer tapping. Adjust the screw on the top of the relief valve housing to give either 2000 or 2600 PSI. Check unit serial number for correct pressure. The hydraulic top cover needs to be taken off and engine run at 2000 RPM.

DON'T MOVE THE MAIN SPOOL VALVE TO LIFT, UP POSITION, THE PISTON CAN COME OUT AT A RATE OF KNOTS.
Use wire to hold it up.

I have no info on spring length just now, will need to check my info.

Cheers Johnp
I’m a good way from starting her yet as I’m down to a bare chassis. I’m just having crank Re- ground ready for a rebuild( picked up o no 1) so decided to flatten the girl. She was struggling picking the mower up this summer and when you did bounce it up she wouldn’t hold it. Thought it may have been the ram but that looks fine. Pump has a few minor scuffs on brass face plate but nothing to suggest a major loss of pressure. So I think it’s down to the spool or main relief upon inspection the high pressure spring does feel a little weak and is about 7/8 shorter than the low pressure one. I’ve also found it only has the 3” ram with a single ring on it which I believe is off a old universal 4 which won’t help the problem with her dropping over time. I was just sort of fishing for some basic starting point of adjustment( if there was any) or some procedure as I’ve no workshop book for it and have never much to do with them. So any info is great.

Welcome,

Have a look on the download section of this forum, there are plenty of manuals for your 10/60 to download for free.

There doesn't seem to be any info on relief valve springs, not that I can find.

Ok Cheers I have found a broken spring in the main relief which would explain a lack of pressure. I did manage to get a manual off the download section of this forum which will get sorted (i think) but I’m not still entirely sure what this spool is off.

Logged in members should see a section called "downloads" with a subsection called "workshop manuals".

Let me know if you are having trouble finding it.
