Engine swap candidates

Post by Coleman344 » Mon Jul 27, 2020 11:46 pm

Hey folks,
Just had my dreams crushed by Harry (Ploughman I believe), and found out my engine is likely scrap iron!

Anyhow,
Wondering if any of you know what other engines from other tractors may bolt up to the transaxle.
I'm wanting to reuse my new clutch that cost me so dearly!

Oops, excuse the ignorance!

It's a British Leyland 344, not sure what year exactly.
Currently sports a 3.4 four cylinder diesel, and I'd like to stay diesel also.

Potentially answering my question here, but a quick search on the charnley's website for a clutch assembly gives a list of the units that it fits.
So good candidates for engines would be:

Nuffield Universal Three (3DL), Nuffield Universal Four (4DM)
Nuffield 342, 460, 10/42, 10/60, 3/45, 4/65
Leyland 253, 245, 344, 384, 255, 270, 262, 272, 462, 472, 282, 482
Leyland 502, 602, 604, 702, 704
Marshall 502, 602, 604, 702, 704.

Do the readers concur?

Thanks Harry,

Mike I see you're located not terribly far from me. I'm up in Hanover area.
I'd really appreciate you asking around or keeping an ear open.
