Differences of BMC Engines 38VD and 34TD

Hey Lads
Just wondering can anybody shine some light on the 2 engines.What does the 34TD and 38VD stand for.Whats the differences in them.Also are all the parts interchangeable.Thanks

There are a number of differences, but the basic engine is similar unless the tractor engine has a balancer. Fuel injection equipment and timing will also be different.

34TD = 3.4ltr Tractor Diesel (95mm bore)
38VD = 3.8ltr Vehicle Diesel (100mm bore)

Would the con rods and head be the same

Hi, The "VD" engine has bigger diameter crankshaft journals so the conrods have a larger bottom diameter. The cylinder head might be the same if the VD engine is a early one. Later engines have different water flow and a different head gasket due to the holes for water being changed!
