Leyland 285 power steering problems

Post by Rick P »

Hi guys,

I’m an absolute rookie mechanically so apologies in advance..

My power steering seems to have died on my 285, the drip tray looks like I’m losing fluid but it doesn’t appear to be clutch or brake.

Any thoughts or pointers for me?

Cheers Rick

Have you checked the fluid level in the pump reservoir?

There is a workshop manual in the 'downloads' section if it helps.

Hi, The most common problem on that system is a blocked filter in the pump, the filter is located in the steel housing on the rear of the pump.
Filter part number for various manufacturers are listed in the filter finder section of this forum.

A tractor that doesn't drip oil is empty!
