Nuffield injector removal

Post by woo0003 »

hi, I'm trying to remove the injectors from my BMC 3.4 diesel and they are proving tricky. I have removed many injectors from Perkins engines which use a CAV fuel system and I assume they are similar?. I had a Quick Look at the manual and they suggested using a special tool, however I don't really fancy buying a tool just for one job. Anyone got any tips that they find work? I don't want to break anything by prying on them too hard. thanks.

The tool mentioned is a puller, you should be able to make one yourself if prying doesn't do it, we have a Perkins AD3.152 in a similar situation and I might try this and see what happens. Simms and CAV injectors are indeed very similar, and as CAV bought Simms in 1968 many parts are still easy to find.

Hi, You can usually get a spanner to grip the body, or the cap nut and twist the injector left and right, once it is moving a prybar can be used under one of the wings to ease the injector upwards.

thanks Rick, I have them out now, that's what I did in the end anyway. not without accidentally adjusting the pop pressure of one though :(
